Business Partners

Newport Middle High School strives to provide the highest level workplace education programs to students. Each program is designed to provide students with the skills necessary for success in today's ever-changing workforce. In many cases, school to work programs assist young adults in identifying and realizing a career path.

In an effort to support these programming goals, NMHS continually seeks to expand partnerships with members of the Newport business community. These partnerships provide members of the local business community the opportunity to advise instructors by sharing their knowledge of industry - further enhancing the educational experience while providing businesses the opportunity to shape their potential workforce. These relationships are crucial to the overall educational experience of School to Work Program students and serve to enhance the lessons learned in the classroom.

There are a variety of ways members of the local business community can support work based learning programming offered by Newport High School and the Sugar River Valley Regional Technical Center.

Listed below are just a few of these ways:

  • Participate in Advisory Committees
  • Serve as a mentor and/or guest speaker for CTE classes/programs
  • Participate in Career Fairs held by the Center
  • Provide Job-shadowing opportunities to assist students in identifying an educational path
  • Provide internship experiences for students enrolled in School to Work or CTE programs (Student Placement Programs)
  • Provide externships for School to Work or CTE teachers/faculty
  • Be an advocate in support of School to Work or CTE in the local community Work with counselors to raise awareness of career opportunities among students and parents

Remember, business and industry plays a vital role in the development of a future workforce - support career and technical educational programming.
